Art in Bloom DC Returns in 2027
We are thrilled to welcome everyone back to Anderson House for Art in Bloom DC 2027! Each year, Art in Bloom brings together an extraordinary community of floral designers, artists, volunteers, visitors, and friends to celebrate the intersection of art, flowers, history, and imagination.
For 2027, we are especially excited to bring back our collaborative group floral project, giving participating designers another opportunity to create something together alongside their individual interpretations.
We are also expanding our focus on making Art in Bloom an experience that can be enjoyed by even more of our community. This year, we hope to extend special invitations to local nursing homes and senior communities, creating opportunities for residents to experience the beauty and joy of the exhibition. We are also planning a family-focused day designed especially for children and their families, with programming that introduces younger visitors to flowers, art, and creative expression.
Art in Bloom has always been about more than beautiful flowers. It is about bringing people together, inspiring creativity, and finding new ways to experience art. We cannot wait to open the doors of Anderson House once again and welcome you to Art in Bloom DC 2027.
Art in Bloom DC at Anderson House is an opportunity for museum patrons to view an interpretation, not a re-creation, of a specific artwork or collection or theme (including architectural inspirations) rendered in a floral medium. Over thirty of DC’s most creative and innovative floral designers have come together to each showcase their unique style, vision, and skill through the display of flowers.
What Is Art in Bloom?
The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston hosted the original Art in Bloom exhibit in 1976. Local florists and garden club members created floral arrangements to correspond with the museum’s art collection. The Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, the North Carolina Museum of Art, de Young Museum, and the St. Louis Art Museum have hosted similar exhibits.
Anderson House
Anderson House is the headquarters of the Society of the Cincinnati and some of the artwork inside marks our county’s eighteenth century origins and pride in the liberties we share today.
Larz Anderson’s history as a diplomat, and the house’s gilded age history as a centerpiece for diplomatic entertaining are the bulk of what visitors see and any of the artwork or artifacts on display could be used as an inspiration or background.
The Andersons’ large collection of Asian objects throughout the house make for natural design options, as well as the Italian cathedral wooden choir stalls, and the Flemish paintings.
